Feral by Nature undertook the ecological component of the 2023 annual monitoring of rehabilitation areas within the Bengalla Coal Mine in Muswellbrook, NSW. Monitoring included an assessment of metrics such as flora species richness, foliage percentage cover, ground cover diversity, native seeding germination success and natural woody vegetation recruitment.
Feral by Nature recently completed a Biodiversity Assessment Report for proposed safety upgrades to the Kamilaroi Highway near Willow Tree in the Liverpool Plains of the NSW North-West for Transport for NSW. The assessment included field surveys consistent with the Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM) as required under the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016.
Feral by Nature recently undertook a soft-jaw trapping program targeting wild canids in the Palmers Channel-Maclean areas on the NSW North Coast. The project was in response to continued wild dog attacks on livestock in the region and sought to reduce the impacts of wild dogs and foxes on primary production on local farms. Soft-jaw trapping was used as a secondary control technique post 1080-baiting by land owners and was successful in removing a number of problem animals that persisted in the area.
Feral by Nature often undertakes pre-clearing surveys and inspections of vegetation and habitat that may harbour native fauna. Recently FbN staff inspected several culverts in need of replacement along the Gwydir Highway on the Gibralter Range of the New England Tablelands. Culverts were surveyed for microbats which often roost in cavities and hollows of made structures.
